Republ1c Wakepark Experience

3:52 PM

My list of things to write about is getting longer and longer and I can't seem to cross out at least one for the longest time..so I'm trying to write something right now lest I get side-tracked and I'll end up not finishing a blog post for another month.

Just like this experience.

It was my first time to try wakeboarding and I can say for sure that it's one of the things that you won't regret trying at least once in your life.

My college friends and I went to Republic Wakepark at Nuvali. Although it does say Nuvali, expect that you would be on your ride for ten-fifteen minutes from Nuvali to actually reach the wakepark. It's situated after a long service road and good thing one of us knew how to get there. Even so, there are placards/tarps along the way to help you know where to go.

Entering the lobby, the first thing you will notice is the view of the wakepark outside the building. We remembered saying how large the area was and we were a bit anxious and excited at the same time seeing the huge loop of water.

On the right, they have wake-boarding items that you can purchase on their store. Rashguards, helmets, and wakeboards are available for sale.

To the left is their counter where you'll pay for the wakeboard time. Those that are not going to wakeboard are allowed to go in without entrance fee. My friends and I find this quite nice, because for some who might be afraid, they can check the "enemy camp" first before deciding whether they'd like to try it out or not.

The shortest time that you can pay for is 2 hours, from what I remembered. It may seem a long time but once you're there you wouldn't notice the time. You will also have to deposit for the helmet and life vest. This is one of the few things we found negative..see below post.*

They also have a dining area where they offer mostly Filipino food. We enjoyed our lunch first before deciding to brave the waters.

Now this. This is a stretch of man-made wakeboard area. This is also their beginner's course and this is where we all fell flat on our faces. Literally.

Not to discourage you or anything, but that's a normal occurrence when trying this sport out. You'll fall at your back, at your side, at your belly, almost all possible ways that you can think of falling can happen. But if you have a natural gift for balance, lucky you!

You just have to zone everyone out once you're on the board and just enjoy your time - on the board - for as long as you can. Or as long as you can reach the end side.

We were only able to try it out 3-4 times, because after a while, there were alot of people waiting on line already. There's also an instructor to guide you and show you what to do so that really helps.

Tiring part on this endeavor is swimming back to the "shore" after falling down. You'll have plenty of exercise for sure! =D

If you're looking for something new to do this summer, try this out! They have an ongoing promo at http://republ1cwakepark.com/promos.html

*their helmets are decent enough. But man, their life vests looked like it was gnawed on by sharks. No kidding. You'd be lucky to find one that's still in tact and looks like it can still carry you afloat when you fall down the board. Hopefully they've seen to this. But at the same time, I do understand why they still use those even if you won't normally let others wear them. I just hope they can find the time to fix them. They don't have to change the vests to new ones, they can just repair them as best as they could. It would also look better for the customers that way and the customers won't think negatively on what they see.

Few things:
• Be open to try it out, especially if it's your first time. It's a really fun experience =]
• Be ready to wait in line, especially when afternoon comes
• Let go of the bar you're holding on to when you're already falling. It will be hard at first because you're trying to hold on for dear life, but really, you got to let go. It's easier and less painful that way. (This could pass off as something related to relationships, noh? 'Pag iniwan ka na, bitawan mo na. Wag ka ng pumilit kumapit pa kasi ikaw lang masasaktan.' Somewhere along those lines? xD)
• The man-made water track is made to look and feel as natural as possible. Natural is the key word. ;)
• Bring your friends, enjoy, and have fun!
