REVIEW: LayBare - Eyebrow Threading
10:29 PMI was at the mall yesterday, walking around looking for something to do and I got to the floor where the salons were and read eyebrow threading in some of the posters posted on few salons. I was choosing between The Brow Specialist and Lay Bare. It was my first time to try eyebrow threading, since I've tried Lay Bare before and had become a repeat customer, I decided to go there. From what I read in the net, it says that it's a bit painful but because it pulls your hair from the roots, it takes longer for the hair to grow back compared to shaving or plucking.
If you've been to Lay Bare before, you would be accustomed to their time schedule. All of the branches I've been to are always almost full when I go there even if the mall just opened up. If you are lucky, you would only have to wait for 15 min. but most of the time it takes about 30 min. or more. You can always list your name in their log book and return to the salon after an hour or so, they usually text you if your slot is available. Although, I prefer to just wait in most cases because there are times they'll let you go first if the other party hasn't come back for the time being.
If the person before you just went and have an underarm wax or eyebrow threading, good for you! That means you'll only have to wait just a wee bit earlier than those who get a half leg, full leg or brazillian wax. Hmm..checking the service of the person before you in the log-book could probably be useful when deciding to stay or leave for a while
In my case, I decided to wait for my turn. It took about 30-40 min. before I was called in to get my eyebrow thread.
The first thing I ask was whether it would be ok for me to get my eyebrows thread. I was worried that the threading method would not be kind to my sensitive/acne-prone skin. The staff said that it wouldn't be a problem, it would just be a little bit painful in the process and quite red afterwards.
She was right (except having no problem with the sensitive/acne prone skin =[ ). The pain was tolerable at some point, it felt like running your nails over your eyebrows but with a little bit of tingle. After the threading, my eyebrow area did get a bit red and felt..pungy? She told me not to get it wet and not to put anything over it, like face powder, so I didn't. The redness subsided a little after a few hours, but what bothered me was that after waking up this morning, I saw this small pimples forming around the area where I got my eyebrows threaded. It's not a big of a deal if there were only one or two. But there were at least five small pimples with heads and is quite disturbing. It's not something that people would notice from a distance, but if they do get close enough and just focus on your eyebrow (not that I think people do that anyways. lol.) they would see them. It just feels like I have an allergy of some sort - I think the lotion the staff used wasn't "hiyang" for my skin.
Sad to say, it was an experience I wouldn't like to repeat again. Or would do a lot of thinking of if ever I'll try to have one again. For now, I'll stick with the shaving and plucking.
Lay Bare Eyebrow Threading Price: P110
The Brow Specialist Eyebrow Threading Price: P188
Thoughts:
• If you have sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin I wouldn't recommend this. But if you really would like to try, let us know how it went for you. Hopefully you would have a better experience than I did ^^
• If you have an appointment or engagement to go to on the day you were thinking of getting your eyebrows thread, it's better to get it done a day before so that you wouldn't have to worry about the "redness".
UPDATE---
What I liked about this service was that my eyebrow hairs didn't grow as fast as when compared to shaving and plucking. Also, it didn't make them thick or anything. It actually even made them grow thinner compared to the other two methods.
I just need to get past through the popping pimples and I might give this another shot.

UPDATE.UPDATE
I tried this again the second time hoping that it would be a better experience. Like before, I asked the staff person if the small bumps that I experienced before is normal. They said, yes. Which means I probably am not the only one who has the same issue. It's a natural thing to happen they said, because the skin is reacting to the "threading" process. Gladly, this time around, there wasn't too much pimples. A few in a course of a day to 3 days and eventually , they will dry out. I noticed the hairs growing back by the 3rd day so it's not a long lasting situation. And if you don't have time to go to the salon. Might as well work with plucking or shaving for an easy fix.

Hi, I thought I might give this a try. I am a regular at MaxxWax and it's quite pricey and Im on a budget today. I suggest you try it because I have a really good experience there.

I usually tweeze them but my fingers always get a little too happy and snip off wanted chunks of hair so I decided to grow my brows and get them threaded instead. eyebrow tinting
